The United Nations Working Group on human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises meets with The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand for a Discussion on Driving the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs)

 
        Bangkok (27 March, 2018) – The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) led by Mr. What Tingsmitr, the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Mrs. Prakairatana Thonthiravong, Mrs. Angkana Neelapichit and Mrs. Tuenjai Deetes, the Commissioners together with the management and officers of NHRCT’s office welcome and have a discussion with Mr. Dante Pesce, vice-chairperson and Mr. Surya Deva, the member of the United Nations Working Group on human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises on their official visit to Thailand. Along with the representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights-OHCHR and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Meeting Room of NHRCT’s office. The objectives of this visiting including to gathering the information of the advancement of related government agencies on implementing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and to prepare a report and recommendations.
        During the meeting, NHRCT presented the roles of NHRCT on Business and Human Rights on the essential areas such as to translate the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights: Implementing the United Nations 'Protect, Respect and Remedy' Framework into Thai, to organize a seminar for dissemination the knowledge regarding the UNGPs to the state agencies, state enterprises and business companies, to determine the issue of business and human rights to be the main issues in the 2017-2022 NHRCT’s strategies., to prepare the guide book on Human Rights Due Diligence for business sector to assess the human rights impact and prepare the summary of NHRCT’s working on the human rights violation complaints that occurred from the business operation particularly on the human rights violation on community’s rights, labour’s rights, and occupation’s rights.
        In addition, NHRCT also provide the additional information that the UN Working Group interested and has made an inquiry such as the NHRCT’s report on the examination on the importance of human rights violation complaints, the coordination with the related agencies both nationally and internationally, the roles of NHRCT in protection of Human Rights Defenders, to promote the participation of local people who are effected by business operation and to prepare the recommendation on the measurement and guiding in an effective remedy and the element, qualification, selection and authority of NHRCT according to the Organic Law on the National Human Rights Commission B.E. 2560.
