NHRCT cooperated with UN Women for strengthening the capacity of NHRCT

The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT), in association with the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the Foundation for Women and IWRAW Asia Pacific, supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), Canada organized the national workshop on Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women : CEDAW and Roles of the Corporate Sector and Women Rights on 17-19 March, 2015 at the Sampran Riverside Hotel, Sampran district, Nakorn Pathom province. This workshop was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD).

The workshop was aimed to strengthen the NHRCT ‘s capacity on facilitating the capacity of the leading to change complying with international human rights standards and norms mentioned in CEDAW in particular. It also aimed to build NHRCT’s capacity on monitoring the implementation in compliance with CEDAW. These would assist in enhancing the actual equality of men and women. The attendants were totally 30 persons. The main issues were such as business and women rights and indicators for monitoring the progress of women in Thailand.

It expected that after the workshop, the staffs of the NHRCT will gain capacity in promoting women rights according to the international human rights standards including the CEDAW and the Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights: Implementing the United Nations “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework.
