NHRCT praised and thanked the Thai government for consideration on the
abolishment of capital punishment

The cabinet resolution dated on 20 April 2015 mentioned that it assigned the Ministry of Justice, as the key organization, together with the related organizations to consider the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT)’s policy recommendation and legal recommendation on the capital punishment and to prepare the overall conclusion report or the progress of the performance related. Such assignment shall be proposed to the cabinet within thirty days after the date of acknowledgement.

The NHRCT would like to praise and thank the Thai government to seriously take an action for abolishment of capital punishment that is in line with the 3rd National Human Rights Plan (2014 - 2018). Also, more than 150 UN members has legally or practically either abolished or restricted for the capital punishment such as the Philippines, Mongolia,
Cambodia, etc. In contrast, there are only 58 countries including Thailand have still remained the capital punishment. The abolishment of capital punishment will help enhancement of human rights promotion and protection in Thailand which will be recognized internationally.

The NHRCT will put the full effort to cooperate and provide information to the Ministry of Justice and other organizations for their consideration on abolishment of capital punishment as prompt as possible. In order to build the society where the human dignity and international human rights principle will be respected, the capital punishment is hopefully abolished under the administration of the current government.
