Press Release: NHRCT urge the relevant authorities to carry out in accordance with the Constitution on the case of arrest and detention.

           On December 15, 2558, Mr. What Tingsmitr, chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, was interviewed during the activity on the International Human Rights Day; December 10, on the arrest and detention case. Mr Thanakorn Siripaiboon was arrested on December 8, 2015 and Mr. Thanet Anantawong was also arrested on December 13, 2015. After that, on December 14, 2015, the authorities took them to the Court arrest warrant and Mr Thanakorn is now detained in Bangkok Remand Prison but there is no information on the place to detain Mr Thanet.

           The National Human Rights Commission has monitored closely on both events.  In order to protect the rights of the person, NHRCT propose the comments for consideration as follows:

           1. To Control or detain, there should reveal the place and inform the relatives of the detainees without delay, so that the relatives can visit them at the appropriate times, according to the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand (Interim) Act 2557 Section 4, the International Covenant for the Protection of All Persons from bravely forced disappearance (ICPED) that Thailand has already signed.

           2. If the detainees are under the medical treatment, there must be guaranteed that the person will be treated continuously as the medical treatment plan until healed.

           Therefore, NHRCT would like to urge relevant organizations to carry out in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand and the International Obligations on Human Rights. In order to understand and to prevent social conflict in Thailand. NHRCT will monitor the situation closely and continuously.
