Upon the release of the core leaders of the demonstration opposing the construction of a coal – fired power plant in Krabi and the government’s instruction to reexamine the report on the Environmental and Health Impact Assessment (EHIA) of the said project, the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) would like to express its appreciation to the government and all parties concerned for their attempts to ease the highly tensed situation that might lead to grave violations of human rights. The NHRCT really hopes that in the future all parties would act in a manner that takes into account the participation and views of others. This is to show respect for freedom of expression of people to determine the development direction of their own society and community and to avoid any recurrence of such incident.
