The NHRCT discussed with the APT on the possible cooperation to raise awareness of torture prevention

          On 8 July 2021, Ms. Pornprapai Ganjanarintr, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) together with Asst. Prof. Suchart Setthamalinee, Ms. Pitikan Sithidej and Mr. Wasan Paileeklee, National Human Rights Commissioners, Ms. Atchara Shayakul, Deputy Secretary-General of the NHRCT, and staff members, discussed with Ms. Barbara Bernath, Secretary-General of the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) and her team via an online platform. The APT has informed the NHRCT of their strategic campaign against torture including activities conducted in the region with state agencies, civil society organizations and national human rights institutions including the NHRCT. The NHRCT was also informed that the APT was interested in cooperating with the NHRCT, especially in social mobilization to recognize the importance of torture prevention.
          The Chairperson congratulated the activities undertaken by the APT and was ready to cooperate with the APT in the area where both sides agreed upon. Other Commissioners also discussed in details of their experiences how torture prevention should be conducted and also sought expertise from the APT. Further details on cooperation will be elaborated after the situation of Covid-19 improves.
